A study by economists at the University of Warwick found that happiness led to a 12% spike in productivity, while unhappy workers proved 10% less productive. As the research team put it, “we have shown that happier subjects are more productive, the same pattern appears in four different experiments. This research will provide some guidance for management in all kinds of organizations, they should strive to make their workplaces emotionally healthy for their workforce.”
A key factor in building an emotionally healthy workplace is the quality of work experience. Employees that are continually supported in their professional growth and development by their employers are more engaged, happier, and committed. According to the Udemy’s 2018 Millennials at Work study, 42 percent of employees said learning and development were the most important benefits when deciding where to work. Clearly, employers who invest in building their team’s skills and competencies create a positive employee experience and therefore, ensure success of their business.
Organizations across industries are investing in learning and development through a variety of avenues – tuition reimbursement, opportunities to attend conferences related to their work, leadership development programs, e-learning, classroom-based training, webinars, self-directed training, and more. However, what is needed is a holistic approach to learning and development. Such an approach will not only address skill needs of today but also prepare employees for tomorrow.
Unfortunately, not all organizations are equipped to design and implement holistic training programs. They may have subject matter experts and great managers but do their SMEs have the training or talent to teach others? Do they have the ability to keep participants actively involved? Do they know how to design effective and efficient training?
An experienced, professional trainer likely has those abilities, training aids and materials. And these are likely proven to be effective. A well-thought out and executed training program is the best insurance against the many changes and needs that keep arising in any organization.
At IRA Coaching, we believe holistic training is the best way to ensure success in the competitive banking and insurance industry.
